Madagui, in its ethnic minority language, means “The Gui river of the Mạ people”. Mạ people are an ethnic minority of the linguistics family of Mon – Khmer. Their current living area is at the central upstream Dong Nai river on a strip of successive land along the Đạ Đơng river valley, bordering the Bảo Lộc plateau, the Di Linh plateau and the red-soil southeastern area. In Vietnam, there are approximately 30,000 Mạ people, mostly living in Lâm Đồng province with over 20,000 people. God of Mountain (Yang Bơnơm) is one of the gods who are worshipped and respected by the Mạ people, who believe that their daily activities are governed by supernatural forces called Yangs. They worship many Yangs, such as Yang Bri (God of Forest), Yang Bơnơm (God of Mountain), Yang Hiu (God of House), Yang Koi (God of Rice), Yang Lú (God of Rock)… They often kill cattle to make offerings to Gods when they have a bumper harvest, birth-giving or when their relatives are sick or dead.
